Take the Tour: Overview

This tour of MediaPortal will be broken down into many sections, the first giving a brief overview of each part of the tour. You can jump directly to a feature by using the title links of each section or by using the navigation panel. A key is provided to help identify a features role in MediaPortal.

A lot of the amazing features which MediaPortal offers are is due to its ability to be customized. So let's begin there.

Customization -

MediaPortal has some basic usability built into it.

• Manage, display and control your local digital or disc media
• Live TV with PVR/DVR capability
• Local radio
• Weather

But its true power comes out in the plugins and skins that have been developed exclusively for MediaPortal.

Live Television -

Live TV is an option no matter where you live or how you choose to get your feed; antenna, cable, satellite or Internet. A TV tuner/video capture card must be present for this feature. TV can be offered in a standalone fashion (one PC only) or as a true TV server with one PC hosting TV for all other computers on the network. MediaPortal's EPG (often called 'Channel Guide' or simply 'Guide') surpasses that of most commercial set top boxes and allows for total DVR control.

Music -

Listen to you music in a style that only MediaPortal can offer. Sort, filter and playlist abilities allow you to listen to what you want, when you want. The Now Playing screen displays song info and artist fan art. You may even end up catching yourself watching your music!!!

Photos -

Grab the camera! MediaPortal can take your personal photo collection, keep them organized and display them in a beautiful slideshow.

Recorded/Saved TV Shows -

Display your TV collection the way it was meant to be. MediaPortal scans the location where you save your TV and grabs graphics, summaries, actor info, air date and other important information directly from the web.

Radio -

MediaPortal can broadcast your local, satellite and online radio. Almost all TV tuners support local FM/AM tuning. Some will handle satellite radio like Sirius. Most popular internet radio servers, Pandora and Last FM to name a couple, are also supported in MediaPortal via plugins.

Movies -

Much like recorded or saved TV shows, MediaPortal sorts, filters and displays your personal movie collection. While also grabbing fan art, box graphics, actor info, summaries and other important info MediaPortal can tie online trailers to your collection giving you ultimate control with unbeatable style.

Home Video -

Sort and display your personal home video collection with snapshot graphics. Take your home videos and show them off in way that your memories deserve.

Games -

MediaPortal can take your gaming needs to a new level. Not only offering classic games like Chess, Tetris and Connect 4, you can bring all of your classic console games back into play. Take a trip down memory lane and run your emulators while displaying your ROM collection. Enjoy games from the way back Atari & Commadore64 beginning’s to the more recent, and addictive, PlayStation 2.

Music Videos -

Rock out with your collection of music videos! MediaPortal grabs fan art, artist and album info while pairing it with your music videos. Scan through and find what you are in the mood for, kick back and watch your favorite artists preform for you.

News -

Catch all of your RSS feeds in MediaPortal. Never miss a news break again. Have your feeds feed throughout MediaPortal.

Weather -

MediaPortal can turn you into your own personal meteorologist! Find out exactly what you need to know about the weather without having to wait for the news, or for cable weather to cycle around to your local area. Select from current and 5 day forecasts with satellite and geographic images at your disposal.

Home Automation -

MediaPortal can take your home theater experience to another level with home automation. Have your movie or TV show pause when the doorbell or phone rings, dim the lights as soon as you press play and brighten when paused, plus many other cool tricks.

Online Media -

Take control of the online media you have access to, all inside MediaPortal. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, NBC.com, BBC.com, PBS.com, NFLN.com plus hundreds more.

Browse the Web -

Kick back and take over the web via your remote control. Browse through your bookmarks or access new sites using the on-screen keyboard.
